Clackamas County’s construction of the new Sunnyside Library fulfilled the promise to voters made with the 2008 passage of the Library District of Clackamas County. HHPR provided surveying, civil engineering, planning, and landscape architecture services on this exciting project, which included an addition to and renovation of an existing building, streetscape improvements, and the design of a new shared use parking lot.
HHPR’s structural team provided full design services, including a feasibility study to review options for retrofitting the existing building to carry structural loading for the library uses. Sustainable building practices were utilized by using green structural components such as structural steel, light gage steel, and manufactured wood members.
The library parking lot was constructed on the adjacent Village Green Park property and provides a dual parking lot shared by the Park and the Library. The new lot utilizes Low Impact Development elements and unique sustainable design features including pervious AC pavement, pervious pavers in the parking lot area, and flow through planters with native plants for water quality treatment.
