Sherwood Cannery Improvement Project
The City of Sherwood Urban Renewal Agency worked with a private developer to redevelop a former brick manufacturing plant and cannery adjacent to downtown Sherwood. HHPR provided design and construction management services for public street improvements around and through the site. The street improvements included a mixture of festival street and green street characteristics such as decorative paving, specialty lighting, a “curbless” street section, holiday lighting, green street facilities, and electric vehicle charging stations. The project required extensive coordination of streetscape elements to balance traffic, parking, and pedestrian activities in the downtown area. Specialty paving materials and a low profile curb section make the street feel pedestrian friendly and encourage a reduced vehicle speed. Existing and new utilities in the area were relocated underground as part of the improvements. In addition to the public street infrastructure the project includes a public plaza with play fountain, a performing arts community center and commercial and residential development.
